How to record a split-screen Reel
Step by step: generate the script, record while reading the teleprompter, upload the video and produce a Reel with animation on top and you talking below.

Make a Reel where the scene animation is on top and you appear below, talking to the camera. The AI writes the script, you record while reading the teleprompter, and XBASE puts the video together with your voice, the captions and the end card.
What you need
- Permission to manage integrations in the workspace.
- A provider key for the script (Anthropic or OpenAI) and the ElevenLabs key to transcribe your speech (or the OpenAI one, by choosing OpenAI Whisper in Tools → Recording editing → Transcription).
- A phone to record vertically.
Step by step
Choose the template
In Production → Studio → Create, in the Format step, click Reels / Shorts and Continue. In the Template step, click Split screen: animation + you and Continue. If you prefer to appear in full screen, use You in full screen.
Generate the script
Follow the steps: the editorial line and the persona, the channels and, in Content, the brief. In Review and generate, click Generate script (review first). With your own recording, the first step is always the script: Generate everything (one click) does not show.
Review the narration
With the status Script ready, open the production and adjust the narration of the scenes until it sounds natural out loud. Click Save script.
Record while reading the teleprompter
In the Your recording panel, read the Teleprompter (or use Copy text and paste it into a teleprompter app). Record vertically, in a quiet place, with light in front of you and your face in the top third of the frame. You can speak at your own pace: if you make a mistake, stop, breathe and repeat the sentence; the pause is cut in editing.
Upload the video
Click Upload the recording and choose the file (MP4, MOV or WebM, up to 200 MB and 5 minutes, with sound). The bar shows the upload progress.
Produce and review
Click Produce (one click). Your speech is transcribed, long pauses are cut, the video is sped up (1.1× by default) and your speech becomes the voice of the piece. With the status Ready, watch the video and look at the 12-frame contact sheet before publishing. To change the cut or the speed-up, use Tools → Recording editing and click Regenerate everything.
What to expect
The Reel comes out with the animation on top, you talking below, word-by-word captions on the seam and the end card with the button after you finish speaking.
