How to create an AI agent in XBASE
Step by step to create a Native AI agent in XBASE from your company's website and Instagram and put it to work on your website chat.
Updated on
Create an AI agent that serves your website visitors. You enter the website, the Instagram account and the goals, and the XBASE AI learns about the company and builds the agent.
For now, the Native agent serves the website chat. On WhatsApp, replies currently come from an External agent.
What you need
- Permission to manage agents in the workspace. Without it, the Create agent button doesn't appear.
- The company's website address, the @ of a public Instagram profile or a text of at least 30 characters about the company. Any one of the three is enough.
- AI credits in the workspace: creating the agent and its replies use credits. See AI agents.
- To put the agent on your website: permission to manage integrations and access to the website HTML, to paste a script.
Step by step
Open agent creation
In the menu, open AI Agents and click Create agent. Or, in All agents, click Create agent.
Name the agent
In Agent name, write a name your team will recognize, such as "Downtown Store Support". The limit is 60 characters.
Choose the Native type
Under Agent type, choose the option with the Native badge. The other option, Connect my agent (External badge), is only for people who already have an agent running outside XBASE.
Tell the AI where to learn
In the Where the AI will learn about the company block, fill in:
- Website: the address, such as yourcompany.com. The AI reads the home page and up to 7 inner pages.
- Instagram: the profile handle, without the @. The profile must be public.
Fill in both if you can: the more sources, the more the agent knows.
Choose the goals
Under Agent goals, choose one or more of Customer Service, Lead Qualification and Support. For a goal of your own, click Add another goal and describe it in a few words, such as "Schedule store visits".
You can have up to 5 goals, and the first one is the main one.
Write additional instructions (optional)
In Additional instructions, write what the agent needs to know or follow that isn't on the website or Instagram. Example: "Don't quote prices for custom cakes without the team. Always ask for the event date." The limit is 4,000 characters.
Create the agent
Click Create agent. The screen shows the percentage and what the AI is doing, such as "Reading the company website". Wait for it to finish without closing the page.
Review what the agent doesn't know yet
When "… is ready" appears, read the What the agent doesn't know yet block, if it shows up. That's information the AI couldn't find. Write it down to add to the agent's instructions later.
If you see Some sources couldn't be read, the agent learned only from the rest.
Open the agent
Click Open agent. On the Panel, the Agent instructions card shows what the AI wrote. Add what was missing in step 8 there.
Put the agent on your website chat
In the menu, open Integrations and, in the Inboxes tab, click Connect on the Live Chat card, choose the agent under Agent and click Turn on Live Chat. Then copy the script and paste it on your website. The full step-by-step is in how to add the chat to your website.
Test with a real message
Open your website, click the chat button and send a question. The conversation also appears in Conversations (Chatcenter in the advanced menu).
What to expect
The agent appears in AI Agents with the Active status and replies to visitors on your website chat. Conversations go to Conversations, together with those from the other channels.
